Request Summary: Diagnosis of Alzheimer’s Disease
Request Category: Researcher
| Question Number 1: I am conducting analysis on the diagnosis of Alzheimer’s Disease and would be grateful if you could answer the questions below for all relevant activity within the Trust. Please see attached | |
| Answer To Question 1: Please see attached responses Q3 response from IS: In the last 3 months (December 2025 – February 2026) there have been 30 lumbar punctures carried out at the Trust. However, please note that these are not just tests carried out purely to test for Alzheimer’s Disease. Therefore we are unable to say how many of these tests were carried out specifically as a procedure to test for Alzheimer’s Disease. Response from Medicine Division: Essentially lumbar punctures and blood biomarkers are not currently indicated in diagnosing Alzheimer's Dementia so we don't do them as part of that work up. They are done for many other conditions, just not dementia. My understanding is that this aspect is currently more of a research tool rather than a test utilised by clinical services. I am not able to answer if there is a trial ongoing at the moment that would include this testing. Please see attached document. To accompany this answer to question 1 please also see the documents listed below: | |
