| Question Number 1: would be grateful if you could provide some information about the Trust鈥檚 policy on charging for lost or damaged hearing aids. Please could you confirm the date the policy was introduced and provide the following figures for the two years before and the two years after its introduction: 鈥� The number of hearing aids reported lost. 鈥� The number of replacement hearing aids issued because the original aid had been lost. 鈥� The number of replacement hearing aids issued because the original aid had been damaged through misuse or negligence. 鈥� The number of charges made under the policy. 鈥� The total amount charged, 鈥� The total amount received. | |
| Answer To Question 1: Audiology Response: The Policy was first introduced in 2017 and was updated in 2025. The department does not differentiate between lost, damaged or otherwise non-functional when replacing hearing aids so cannot answer this question as the data is not granular enough to capture. Since the introduction of our Finance system in 21-22 there has been income of 拢123k relating to replacement hearing aids and batteries - we are unable to distinguish between the two. | |
| Question Number 2: If held, please could you also provide: 鈥� The total number of hearing aids issued by the service in each of those years. 鈥� The average cost to the Trust of replacing a hearing aid. 鈥� Any review or assessment of whether the policy led to fewer hearing aids being lost or replaced. | |
| Answer To Question 2: Please see response attached for 'number of hearing aids issued'. Please note that we do not have any data pre-2017 available. Audiology response: Replacements cost between 拢90-120 depending on staff time. The Trust cannot differentiate hearing aid replacements by reason (lost versus inoperable for another reason).
