| Question Number 1: Please can you tell me the number of boys aged 0-18 who have received inpatient treatment for haemorrhage, shock or sepsis which relates to a circumcision between January 1 2020 and May 1 2026. Please provide this information broken down by year. | |
| Answer To Question 1: The Trust are unable to provide an accurate response for the following reason: The complication codes that would be used for haemorrhage, shock and sepsis are not unique to circumcision-related surgery and can be assigned in relation to a wide range of surgical procedures and clinical conditions. In addition, if a patient is re-admitted with haemorrhage, shock or sepsis following a circumcision, the subsequent admission may not include a circumcision procedure code. This makes it difficult to reliably link the complication back to the original circumcision episode using coded data alone. As a result, we are unable to provide a reliable response to this request without a case-note review to establish whether the complication was related to a previous circumcision procedure. | |
