Meet the Lung Cancer Health Professional Team

The Multi-Disciplinary Team (MDT)

The Multi-Disciplinary Team (MDT) is a weekly meeting with a range of group of health and social care professionals who work together to manage your treatment and care. The meeting helps to plan further treatment of those patients with confirmed or possible serious breast conditions.

The below information is designed to introduce you to some of the members of our team and help you understand their roles within the MDT and in your journey following on from your initial clinic appointment.

Respiratory Physicians

Your Consultant is responsible for the diagnostic pathway and onwards referral.

Clinical Oncologist - Dr Vicky Wood

The clinical oncologist is responsible for planning and reviewing any treatment involving radiotherapy (and if necessary, combination with chemotherapy).

Dr Wood also works at University Hospital Southampton and holds clinics at SA国际传媒 Hospital most Wednesdays.

听

Medical Oncologist - Dr Maung Moe

The Medical Oncologist is responsible for planning and reviewing systemic anti-cancer therapy (chemotherapy/immunotherapy/targeted therapy).

Dr Moe also works across other hospital sites and holds clinics at SA国际传媒 Hospital for lung patients on most Thursdays.

Lung Clinical Nurse Specialists (CNS)

The Lung Clinical Nurse Specialists may also be referred to as the CNS Team. The Lung CNS team have a range of roles and responsibilities within the team and will help co-ordinate care throughout the treatment pathway. They are a consistent point of contact between patients and other members of the Multidisciplinary Team (MDT). They can guide and advocate for patients from diagnosis, throughout treatment and follow-up.

The CNS Team try to be present at the time of diagnosis of lung cancer providing support, contact information and co-ordinating your care.
The CNS Team are the first point of contact providing ongoing telephone and face-to-face support following on from diagnosis.
The CNS Team work closely with the Multidisciplinary Team during the treatment pathway and follow-up periods.

Cancer Support Team

The Cancer Support Team听(based within Salisbury Hospital) are here to help support your cancer diagnosis and treatment, alongside the Clinical Nurse Specialists and Consultants.听

What we do:

Support you and your family from diagnosis, through treatment and beyond.听
Offer Holistic Needs Assessments (HNA) which can help you highlight any practical, social, emotional, financial or spiritual concerns you are worried about.听
Offer you an individual care plan to meet your support needs.听
Facilitate and recommend health and wellbeing events to help support and inform you following on from a diagnosis.听
Refer or signpost to other services and community groups.听
Liaise with other health care professionals involved in your care.听
Co-ordinate follow-up surveillance programmes.

The Lung Cancer Pathway Navigator navigates patients through their diagnostic and treatment pathways, coordinating scans and investigations and organising appointments.

MDT Co-ordinator

The MDT Co-ordinator tracks and guides the journey of all patients who have or are thought to have serious lung problems. The Co-ordinator makes sure that all the processes are complete to treat a person diagnosed with lung cancer.听
